Jesse Marsch recently emphasized the need to accelerate the development paths of Canadian players in the Canadian Premier League. “We need to demand more out of the young players in the country,” he stated. Marsch pointed out that many Canadian talents are discovered in their early 20s, whereas other countries identify players at 17, 18, or 19. As Canada’s national team and love for soccer grow, the CPL should become a stronger platform for young players to develop into professional athletes. I fully support this message and hope to see the CPL implement more strategies to nurture young talent. While there are already rewards for playing younger players and penalties for not, it doesn’t seem to be enough for our national coach. I look forward to seeing Canada make its mark on the international stage soon.
