Hamilton Tiger-Cats wide receiver Luther Hakunavanhu was stretchered off the field and taken to the hospital by ambulance after a tackle during the first play of Saturday's game against the Edmonton Elks. The 27-year-old had just caught a pass from quarterback Taylor Powell when he twisted awkwardly while being tackled. The team later confirmed that Hakunavanhu suffered a head injury but was conscious and had full movement in his extremities as he left the field. He was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. Players from both teams, along with fans at Tim Hortons Field, applauded as Hakunavanhu was taken off the field. The game was delayed for about 40 minutes, and the Elks went on to win 47-22, tying their record with the Ti-Cats. But it’s safe to say this win probably doesn’t feel as good as usual for the Elks.
