A current MLS player for CF Montreal and formerly part of the 2019 CPL finalist Cavalry FC, Joel Waterman, has been called up as an injury replacement to the Canadian Men’s National Team for the coming 2024 Copa America Tournament. This is the second team he’s been selected for the national team, first being the 2022 FIFA World Cup. And although these may not be the circumstances he may have dreamed to be selected again, he now has a chance to represent his country and the Canadian Premier League on the international stage. Yes, he does not currently play in the CPL but his level of talent was on par with many in the Canadian league and if he performs it has the potential to shine some light on the CPL in the eyes of the international teams’ scouts. However, I truly hope he performs to the best of abilities and is able to showcase himself on a larger stage regardless of this. Go Canada!
